i would just like to say who ever printed this statement that kurapoto is a hapu of ngati tuwharetoa is totally incorrect, kurapoto was well established in tapuaeharuru (taupo) well before tuwharetoa arrived and yes there was some fighting going on but tuwharetoa never distinguished the kurapoto descendants as i am one of them and there are still many hundreds of us out there, this tuwharetoa line married a 7th generation down from kurapoto himself, maruahine 11 married tupoto of tuwharetoa and that begat that lineage, my lineage is of the elder direct to kurapoto we are still in existence and we will be challenging tuwharetoa to many statements made about our tupuna kurapoto, it is ngai kurapoto, and ngati tuwharetoa ngai is the elder ngati is the current florence maria karaitiana
