Hi Gadfium, thanks for helping out with the formatting of the Āhia-ki-te-Rāwhiti (East Asia) page I added recently. After a long time away I'm trying to get back into translating more articles for this Māori wikipedia. I'm happy to provide content, but am pretty useless at all the formatting/page layout/infoboxes/pictures/etc. Would you be interested at all in working together by helping fill out the structure of some pages, and then leaving the content for me to translate? For example, for the East Asia page, I just took the intro from the English page and translated it, and then attempted to copy and paste the infobox on the right, but it didn't work out very well. If you were able to set up the info boxes on the right, plus the basic section headings and photos and tables in the main contents just as they are in the English version, I'd be happy to then go through and translate everything into Māori. If this sounds like too much, do you know of any other tech-savvy users on the Māori wikipedia I might approach? Thanks, Hāpara (talk) 18:30, 28 Whiringa-ā-Nuku 2015 (UTC).

Ok, I've set up templates so {{KOR}} and similar templates now work for these countries, and I've copied tables across from the English-language article and made sure they work. Could you please translate the table headings (I did some of the easier ones, but check my work) and section headings. In the infobox there's a little blue text link which says "hide". This changes to "show" if you click it, then displays a list of cities if you click it again. These two pieces of text are contained in MediaWiki:Common.js and need to be translated; if you let me know the appropriate translations I'll do it. I'm not sure where the text "list" in this area comes from. There's also a link to "Others" in the uncollapsed list which you can deal with.

Wow, thanks for getting back so quick Gadfium. With your technical skills I think we'll be able to do a lot for this wiki. I've gone through and translated all the headings I could see (except the term 'per capita', which I want to reconfirm before translating). Regarding the translation of show/hide, I see that in the table of contents there's a similar function that's already been translated as 'hunaia' (hide)/'whakakite' (show). It occurs to me that the terms 'huna' (hide)/'puta' (emerge/appear) are a slightly more punchy way to express the same meaning, but I won't protest if the wiki community has already decided on the former terms. I also couldn't seem to find where the 'list' in the sidebar comes from, but while I was translating 'others' (Ētahi atu) I noticed that there are also lists of asian of languages and timezones in the code that don't show in the published page, would you know how to fix these? On a more general level, given there's not a lot of people on this wiki it seems to me that it makes most sense to focus energies on making linguistically and factually accurate, and visually attractive pages first, and not to worry too much about making them super comprehensive just yet. In practical terms, this is why I'm just focusing on translating the introductory sections of each page (which always contain the definition of the term in the first sentence), and not translating the rest of the content at this stage. At the same time, I also think it's worth trying to provide all the other non-prose content, which is both more accessible than dense text, and make the pages look more complete with less effort. For the 'Āhia-ki-te-Rāwhiti' page, for example, I think it's looking pretty good already, but would feel more or less complete if all the other boxes from the English version could be added ('East Asia' in different languages; UNSC geoscheme map, photos of the cities and captions; plus the 'East Asia' and 'Regions of the World' navigation boxes at the bottom). P.S. is there a shortcut to timestamping comments? Or do I just manually enter the time/date each time?

I stuck with hunaia/whakakite for the time being, rather than use different terms for the same concepts, or changing the terms my predecessors chose.

List of timezones: I'll look at why this isn't displaying later.

East Asia in different languages: added, but needs translation. The headings on a blue background like "Chinese name" appear in Template:Chinese. This is embedded in code and might be a little confusing, but if you use your browser search facility (usually Ctrl-F) to search for each heading in turn you should be able to find and edit them. Within each blue-headed box are one or more languages or scripts, eg "Traditional Chinese" or "Hangul". These are set in Template:Infobox Chinese/Chinese, Template:Infobox Chinese/Korean and similar. See recent changes or my contributions to see similar templates I've added. I have changed a couple which give the language name rather than a script name, using the articles on Rūhia and Mongōria to get the langauge names (you'll note an inconsistency in formatting the names, one has "te reo" and the other just "Reo". The word "Transcriptions" also appears in these Infobox Chinese/[language] templates.

I'll start adding the other content you mention this afternoon or tomorrow. I think there will be a lot of work for you in translating all of this because it probably isn't a simple translation job as these are technical terms and highly specialised.

I've enabled the lists of languages and timezones in the infobox. The template we're using was imported from the English Wikipedia in 2007 and some of the field names have changed over there since. I've provided translations for the languages, and for areas affected by the timezones; please check these, particularly the first timezone (Western Mongolia), and the second timezone should read for the "remainder of Mongolia" and other countries.

No hurry! I think it's looking great now. Just a a couple minor things I thought of: 1) I went to rearrange the tables so that the countries/territories appear in Māori alphabetical order (Haina, Hongipua, Kōrea-ki-te-Raki, Kōrea-ki-te-Tonga, Makao, Mongōria, Taiwana, Whitināmu) but the code is complicated and I didn't want to mess things up; 2) I think It'd be great if the 'East Asia' in other languages section could be one box (as it is on the English page) instead of several, but it's really not that important. Ok I've created and added a short introduction to the page paparahi (continent), and given a suggested list of other sections/tables/boxes to transfer over from the English page on that article's kōrerohia page. I've spent some time working on the navigation boxes today, but haven't added them to the article because I haven't been able to get the formatting right. I'll continue working on them tomorrow. No worries. If this makes things any easier, having looked closer at the two navigation boxes in the English article I think the 'East Asia' one is probably beyond my capacity to translate (and anyone's interest to read?) in the foreseeable future, so it's probably ok not to copy that one over. On the other hand I'd really like to pin down all the major geopolitical articles for this wiki, so I think it's still worth copying over the 'Regions of the world' box, if you agree? Finally got the formatting working and I learned quite a lot in the process. I've added Template:Regions of the world to Āhia-ki-te-Rāwhiti and started the translation of it. If you can, please complete it. Also, this and every other navbox has the "View Talk Edit" links at the top left ("V T E") with the English text "View this template", "Discuss this template" and "Edit this template" appearing if you hover a mouse over the letters. The hover text can be changed in Module:Navbar. If you are unable to edit this yourself, please let me know suitable translations.-gadfium (talk) 03:58, 13 Noema 2015 (UTC)

I've sorted the tables into alphabetical order. I took a look at the 'East Asia in other languages' section but couldn't work out why they were in separate boxes rather than a single one.

• Thanks a lot. The IUCN status files in Special:ListFiles have been moved to Commons. The ending "-mi" has been added to distinguish them from the English language counter parts. Could you unprotect Template:Taxobox, I would then add "-mi" for cases where a Maori version exists. Thanks a lot. Created : commons:Category:IUCN_Category_diagrams_-_mi, Template:Taxobox changed for nine of the files in commons, 2.3 VU not found here. Taxobox can now be protected and all IUCN files in Special:ListFiles be deleted. The File:Wiki.png can be deleted to. Maori Wikipedia is then the 108th to use media files exclusively from Commons. • Workshop & Tutorial: these are presentations with a focus on practical work directed either to acquiring a specific skill or doing a specific task. Sessions are 55 minutes led by the presenters in a classroom space suitable for laptops and work.
