Summary

Description
English: Hampi's ancient granite boulder landscape from Matanga Hill at sunset. Matanga Hill is one of the holy places described in the Ramayana epic. The boulders where the Tungabhadra River makes its bends were once part of huge granite monoliths. They are composed of Eastern Dharwar Craton (EDC) Archean granitoids that are about 2.7 billion years old. The plateau is stable enough, and amongst the oldest exposed surfaces in the world, to feature geology that dates back to the time when the Earth’s continental crust was solidifying from liquid magma in the lithospheric mantle. Hampi, Karnataka, South India.
Русский: Гранитоиды возрастом до 2,7 миллиардов (2700 миллионов) лет. Архейский эон, архей. Геологические свидетельства раннего формирования (отвердевания) земной поверхности. Хампи, Карнатака, Индия.
