English: Bots

Robots, so-called bots, are scripts that are run on Wikipedia to perform routine maintenance. Most robots add or update interwiki links (links to parallel articles in other languages), but they can also do other work like moving or removing categories, checking the validity of external links, and so on.

Requests for bot status

Bot status, which makes a robot invisible in the Recent changes list, may be switched on by a bureaucrat after the robot has been approved by the local Wikipedia. Bot operators may seek approval and bot status on the bot status request page. Bot status may be revoked if there is consensus to do so on the talk page, or should a Bot become inactive or problematic.
