Haeremai, e hoa. Presumably you are the Galician at en:User:Rocastelo on the English Wikipedia. Galicia is about as far away as one can get from where I live (unless one leaves this planet).

I hope you find something useful here and can contribute. Robin Patterson 05:14, 16 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Karihia![takatā pūtake]

You wrote "As it is written Galicia and Galician language in te reo Māori?".

I have looked through my "Te Matatiki" book, a book of "Contemporary Māori Words" published by New Zealand's Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori, the Māori Language Commission, the official body promoting the language. It does not list "Galicia" in its list of international placenames; not surprising, because nearly all of the entries are whole countries or important capitals. But I am fairly sure, from looking at names with similar sounds, that the Commission's preference would be "Karihia" for your autonomous community. I can find no single words for "autonomous" or "self-governing" (though the Ngata dictionary gives "mana motuhake" for "autonomy"), so I suggest we just call it a "hapori" for now. That word appears to be related to "hapu", sub-tribe. A small anomaly is that a "Community" in Aotearoa is much smaller than a province. You have the "Hapori o Uropi" at the other end of the size spectrum. The Ngata dictionary gives the transliteration "porowini" for "province", so we can use that and maybe later explain the size differences; the population listings will soon make it fairly clear.

An "-an" ending generally becomes "-ana", so we can have "te reo Karihiana" -- but maybe you would prefer a transliteration of "Galego"?

I suggest you leave all of Pāniora's province and city names as they are. Spoken and written Māori language can handle all sorts of vowels and consonants in people's names (though many individuals convert their own names to Māori forms, such as Hone for John, when they are old enough to think about it).

If ever we manage to get someone representing the Commission checking our work, I will be very happy to let them change those to whatever they like.

You may like to keep in mind that the Commission has given a translation for the Basque Country: Te Whenua Pakihi. Nearby countries are Wiwi (oui!), Potukara (capital Ripene), and Moroko. It does not list "Madrid" or "Andorra"; I'll look elsewhere for those.

Kia ora! Robin Patterson 11:03, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

More cities - great![takatā pūtake]

I've added several lines to "Pontevedra". Much of it you can probably copy for other cities. Keep up the good work. Robin Patterson 22:47, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Ferrol, Trafalgar[takatā pūtake]

Welcome back! Though perhaps you have been contributing anonymously...

Trafalgar - he kūrae ("cape, headland, or promontory") ki Pāniora - needs a page of its own. That battle image would be better there - or put both under Cadiz province (Porowini). I expect ships from other shipbuilding towns were at Trafalgar, and ships built in Ferrol were in other battles, so there's no particular link with Ferrol. Trees (rākau) from Aotearoa contributed masts and spars to some of the British ships, I believe.

See Andalusia!

Kind regards

Your admin status[takatā pūtake]

Hello. I'm a steward. A new policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc.) was adopted by community consensus recently. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.   You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for 2 years) on miwiki, where you are an administrator. Since that wiki does not have its own administrators' rights review process, the global one applies.   If you want to keep your rights, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights, and demonstrate a continued requirement to maintain these rights.   We stewards will evaluate the responses. If there is no response at all after approximately one month, we will proceed to remove your administrative rights. In cases of doubt, we will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. If you have any questions, please contact us on m:Stewards' noticeboard.   Best regards, Rschen7754 20:13, 17 Ākuhata 2014 (UTC)[reply]
