Talk:Ngā Puhi
We have had an email from one of the people listed here asking why she is on this list. As I have no knowledge of the language, I've no idea! Could someone explain the subject and what the criteria for inclusion are? Many thanks -- Sannse 00:36, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- She is probably a member of that tribe (iwi) who has appeared in a public medium such as Maori Television (Whakaata Maori). I hope she can write a bit more about the tribe. Robin Patterson 17:04, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I don't really understand this answer Robin - I see you added the names, why did you choose them and where did the list come from? I'm not really sure what to tell this lady at the moment -- Sannse 20:58, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I added those names because they were people who appeared on television or in a newspaper, listing Ngapuhi as one of their tribal affiliations (as is the Maori custom). Not for me to judge whether they are all really encyclopaedic in terms of their influence in the tribe or in Aotearoa/New Zealand (though some of them definitely are). Maybe if the list gets to over 100 I'll invite members of the tribe (who number over 100,000) to ensure that only important people get added from then on. For now, with so little material on the site, I tend to add anything I have the energy to add if it seems to have any public value. As an aside, I wonder whether this lady is definitely the one listed (in which case I would very much to talk to her), or is there perhaps just a coincidence of names? - That's great, thanks for the explanation. It may be a coincidence of names, but from the context I'm almost certain it isn't. I will, of course, let her know all about the project - hopefully she will be interested in having a closer look. Thanks again Robin -- Sannse 00:05, 20 Jan 2005 (UTC)
